This will be my first time reaching out to someone for help. I usually am able to handle problems concern my family alone. Does it make me weak to be interested in pursuing a Life Coach?
No not even a little. It makes you responsible and brave for being able to identify that your family is in need of help and being welling to go outside of your comfort zone to get that help.
What is the process and what will I need to be doing during a session?
The family dynamic is different for each and every family that I work with. For that reason, my approach is different for every teen and their family. The first session is typically with the parent alone so that I can determine what the needs are on a surface level. Next, I usually like to meet alone with the teen for his/her perspective on concerns surrounding the topics identified. What happens after the first two meetings is determined totally on what looks to be the best plan of action based on the needs that everyone has presented.
I really need this investment to work in my families’ favor. What else can I do other than just sessions?
Your dedication means everything when it comes down to getting the most out of working with a Life Coach. Likewise, you being an active part of the process is highly recommended and admired. We typically see each other only once a week and so the work that you do at home outside of sessions will be just as valuable as what is going on in the sessions.
How long is the coaching engagement?
The initial engagement runs anywhere from 3 to 6 months. After an initial package, our work together can be ongoing or taken whenever desired. My style of coaching often brings powerful change and creates results very quickly. At the same time, many clients love the support and continued growth that ongoing coaching brings.
How long is each session?
Normally the session runs between 40 to 60 minutes. The first session is usually longer that allows the client and the coach to establish trust and connection. Later, sessions may become shorter because the results can be achieved faster.
How often does my teen come to coaching sessions?
It is ideal to meet at least once a week. However, it depends on what’s most comfortable for you. The end goal is that we are sure that our work together brings about change and that we can sustain that change before discontinuing our coaching sessions. For this reason, we look for a 3-month commitment from clients (unless other arrangements are make) because that is usually home long it takes to address all issues, concerns, start the healing process, and move into the change phase.
Are there assignments given for each session?
Yes, but it will be based on the needs of each family and the individual personalities of the parties involved. It truthfully varies based on family dynamic. Task will be given and assigned based on what can maximize the effectiveness of our work together.
